Multigenerational Bernedoodle

I'd like you to meet Fudge, one of our multigenerational Bernedoodles (he's no longer part of our program and will never become a daddy unfortunately, but he's still as handsome as ever).
Fudge is fully furnished (F/F) and only has 1 copy of curls which gives him a rich, velvety wavy coat!

What is a multigenerational Bernedoodle?

It is generally a cross between 2 Bernedoodles from different generations. It can be an F1b bred back to an F1, or an F2 back to an F1b, etc. We say "multigenerational" to make things easier as all those letters and numbers can get confusing at times!

Will they have the famous "Teddy Bear look" we love?

Multigenerational can have many different looks, from unfurnished, to wavy, to curly coats, but we strive to keep that famous teddy bear look! We absolutely need to GENETICALLY TEST our parents' furnishing genes in order to pair the right dogs together!

What are furnishings and why are they SO important when breeding Doodles?
Furnishings are what's going to determine if the dog will shed lots, minimal, or not at all. The more furnishings, the less shedding, the less allergies!

Multigenerational Bernedoodles, depending on the parents genetics, can have 0 furnishing genes (called unfurnished and look like a Bernese), have 1 copy of furnishings so they will shed a bit, or have 2 copies of furnishings making them much better for allergies!

Our goal is to produce puppies with the most furnishing genes, so they are better suited for people with mild allergies.

Are they considered hypoallergenic?

Keep in mind that hypoallergenic only means it's less likely to cause allergies. Some dogs are definitely more hypoallergenic than others, but none of them are 100% guaranteed to be allergy friendly.
With the multigenerational Bernedoodle, it totally depends on the parents' furnishing gene and who we pair them with. Some can be fully furnished and much better for allergies while others may shed like a Bernese.

There is NO way of knowing if the dog carries 1 or 2 copies other than testing every puppy for that exact gene!

What kind of coat will they have?

Again, it totally depends on the parents chosen.
Some may have :

- 0 copy of curls = straight/wavy coat

- 1 copy of curls = wavy coat

- 2 copies of curls = curly coat

Will they need to be groomed?

They will need to be groomed regularly, as their fur will keep on growing just like a Poodle. Those with curlier coats will need to be brushed and groomed more often to prevent matting, so we recommend every 6-8 weeks. Those with wavier coats, we recommend going to the groomer every 8-10 weeks, and brushing regularly in between appointments.

What size will they be?

They can be any size, depending on the parents chosen for the pairing.
